Special Art Effects is run by Paul and Laura Carey, both originally employed by 'The Madame Tussauds Studios', they have built on their twenty-five years of experience with the Studios and expanded their own business as portrait artists, working in wax, silicone, bronze and fibreglass.

Laura's vast experience and education in sculpture and History of Art, paired with Paul's extensive abilities with materials, model-making, life-casting and animatronics makes them a commanding duo in this competitive industry. Thus far they have worked with a number of prominent directors and artists, Sir Ridley Scott, Sir David Puttman, Stanley Kubrick and the Chapman Brothers.

Other skills, such as colouring, hair-insertion, eye and teeth making allow the company to take complete ownership of all projects. In recent years both Laura and Paul have lectured at London South Bank University and Wimbledon School of Art, a position that has demanded and ensured the company is aware and practicing with all the latest materials and skills to emerge for the entertainment industry.
